There is an allusion among many entrepreneurs who start crowdfunding campaigns that you can just post your product on Kickstarter or Indiegogo and then BOOM, you will reach your fundraising goal. Unfortunately, it’s not that easy but below area few steps that you should take prior to your campaign starting to help ensure a successful campaign.
Do your research on the multiple crowdfunding platforms in order to figure out which one is best suited for your product. There are many platforms you can use. I have listed a few here. Each platform has unique features that the other doesn’t offer and, comes with a community of backers loyal to them.
Activate Your Social Presence
Social media will be the loud horn for your campaign. With a good social media strategy you will reach thousands if not millions of people across Facebook, Twitter and the multiple social networks out there. Start posting on your social media accounts months prior to your crowdfunding campaign’s launch date to begin gaining a following. Although you may not have much to post in regards to your campaign or product, in general, early posting of content about your industry and niche will be helpful for others and you can be sure that many will share that content as well.
In whatever niche you are developing your product there is an online community of enthusiasts. First, find out where they are, second, join them and most definitely, engage with them. For example if you are crowdfunding a new line of beauty products you should find beauty blogs and groups across the internet and engage. What does engage mean in this instance? Jumping into conversations, starting conversations and providing information for someone in the community who may have had a question…your queue! If you helped someone out, in your community, by providing them with something as simple as “information,” there is a higher probability of them sharing your campaign with their network when you ask for it. Beauty Addicts is a Facebook community that has over 1.5 million page “likes.” Join a community like that and you are instantly exposed to a ton of people and potential promoters and backers for your campaign.
Having a group of people excited about your campaign, before it launches, is the ultimate. Pay attention here, and take notes! Set up a landing page that will have information about your product and will allow visitors to enter their email address so they can be notified of your impending campaign’s launch. On the landing page include any videos and photos of the product, even if they are prototypes. Next, include a short biography of who you are. Do the same for team members, if any. Proving to your visitors that you and your team are experienced, knowledgeable and savvy enough to bring your project to life….priceless. I have a few suggestions; that you use a service like Launchrock to set up your landing page and, most important, to send mass email updates to your email list, sign up and use Mailchimp.
